I started my undergraduate degree in Cuba at University of Las Villas. In 2009, I moved to United States and complete my BA in Psychology at Montclair State University. I’m currently enrolled in my second year towards my Masters in Social Work at Rutgers University. I have been working in the field for over four years now. I work for the Board of Education as paraprofessional, assisting students with Special needs. I’m also employed per diem as residential counselor/clinical case manager at West Bergen Mental Health Care, providing support to elderly mental disabled patients focusing on rehabilitation and recovery. Although, my experience in the field is mainly working with special needs students and mental health, I have done some work in the substance abuse field while completing my clinical hours as part of the MSW program. I have recently started my Practicum III at Sherry Blair Institute for Inspirational Change. As student intern, I will be providing face-to-face interventions, supportive counseling, and
behavioral modification strategies for children and adolescents. I’m being trained in Nurture Heart Approach and currently in the process of obtaining the New Jersey Children’s System of Care Behavioral Assistant Training Certification. I’m also doing Quality Assurance for the agency and supporting working in partnership with Family Support Organization of Essex County. I have primarily worked in Bergen, Hudson and Essex counties. After completing my Master in Social Work, I plan continue my education and obtain my LCSW (License Clinical Social Worker) and work with children and youths in need of advocacy and guidance.
