I am a proud alumnus of the Inclusive Education master’s program at Montclair State University. In addition, I hold a second master’s degree in Professional Counseling from William Paterson University of New Jersey.
I am a curriculum support teacher in the Montclair Public Schools. I am credentialed as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities, and I hold both P-3 and K-6 general education certificates. I am a credentialed school counselor, national certified counselor, and licensed associate counselor.
My higher education experience began as a graduate fellowship with the Office of the Provost at WPUNJ. First assigned to the Office of Disability Services, I ensured ADA compliance and mentored students with disabilities. In the Honors College, I supported gifted and talented students with capstone projects and edited the student publication. Currently, I am a part-time student supervisor in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program at the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies at Drew University. I mentor and supervise graduate students in their field settings. I work collaboratively with cooperating teachers and university professors.
Two decades ago I established an educational company — Harmonize: Rock, Play, Groove. Early on, my business served primarily typically-developing children. It has expanded to an inclusive model of instruction which embraces a social justice model of disability as a variation of the human condition.
At the height of Harmonize’s enrollment, my staff of 9 employees and I provided music classes and events in 5 New Jersey towns. During its long tenure, Harmonize has served more than 3,000 children.
Harmonize’s focus has now shifted to serving students with disabilities, so enrollment is lower. My staff handles the business while I leverage my varied skill set and experience as a teacher, mentor, and tutor of students with disabilities. Harmonize has a strong commitment to racially diverse environments that may include socio-economically disadvantaged families and populations of English language learners.
I believe my depth and breadth of professional experience and long-standing commitment to social justice are closely aligned with the values and mission of both teaching and counseling.
